1. Getting Started

CowboyPedigrees.com is a comprehensive database of rodeo horse bloodlines, featuring pedigrees for top competitors in heading, heeling, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, and barrel racing.

What You'll Find Here

Pedigree Search Search almost 2,000 rodeo horse related pedigrees by name or bloodline.
AI Breeding Tools Stallion matching based on proven futurity crosses.
Futurity Results Complete database of roping futurity winners and placings.
Winner's Circle AQHA/PRCA Horses of the Year since 2010.

Site Navigation

Use the menu on the left to navigate between sections. On mobile devices, the menu appears at the top of the page. Key features are highlighted in red for quick access.

3. Keyboard Shortcuts

Speed up your research with these keyboard shortcuts available on most pages throughout the site:

AllBreedPedigree Lookup

Ctrl + Shift + L

  1. Highlight any horse name on the page with your mouse.
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + L (or Cmd + Shift + L on Mac).
  3. A new tab opens with that horse's page on AllBreedPedigree.com.

Descendants Search

Ctrl + Shift + D

  1. Highlight any ancestor name in a pedigree display.
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + D (or Cmd + Shift + D on Mac).
  3. A popup shows all horses in the database descended from that ancestor.
  4. Click "Save to File" to download the list as a text file.
Note: The Descendants Search only works on pages with pedigree data loaded (Pedigree Search, AI Breeding tools, etc.). It searches the currently loaded database.

4. AI Breeding Aids

The AI Breeding Aids section provides tools to help make informed breeding decisions based on proven crosses in our futurity database.

Available Tools

Pedigree Match / MatchMaker
Analyzes your mare's pedigree and suggests stallions that have produced futurity winners when crossed with similar bloodlines.

Stallion Finder
Search for stallions by specific bloodline. Find available stallions that carry the genetics you're looking for.

Breeding Analysis
Enter a hypothetical cross (mare × stallion) to see the projected pedigree and identify potential linebreeding patterns.

Tip: The AI recommendations are based on actual futurity results - they show crosses that have already proven successful in competition.

5. Dosage Analysis

Dosage Analysis helps categorize horses based on their genetic tendencies toward speed, classic performance, or cow work.

Dosage Categories

  • Speed - Bloodlines known for quick acceleration and fast times
  • Classic - Balanced bloodlines with versatility across disciplines
  • Cowhorse - Bloodlines emphasizing cow sense and athletic ability

How to Use

  1. Select a horse from the database or enter a pedigree.
  2. The system analyzes ancestors against the dosage sire database.
  3. View the dosage profile showing the balance of Speed/Classic/Cowhorse influence.

Dosage analysis is available in the Rodeo Dosage and Futurity Dosage tools, accessible from the AI Breeding Aids section.

6. Futurity Database

The Futurity Horses section contains results from major roping horse futurities, providing valuable data for breeding research.

Disciplines Covered

  • Heading (F) - Header futurity results
  • Heeling (R) - Heeler futurity results
  • Breakaway (N) - Breakaway roping futurity results
  • Tie-down (C) - Calf roping futurity results

Data Includes

  • Horse name (arena and registered)
  • Complete 5-generation pedigree
  • Rider/owner information
  • Event and placing when available
Note: Futurity data is updated annually as results become available. Check the "What's New" page for recent additions.

7. Tips & Tricks

Save Pedigrees as PDF

Many pedigree display pages include a "Save as PDF" button. Click it to open your browser's print dialog, then select "Save as PDF" as the destination. The PDF preserves all colors and formatting.

Finding Horses by Bloodline

Use the Descendants Search (Ctrl + Shift + D) to find all horses in the database that descend from a particular sire or dam. This is useful for researching the influence of foundation sires.

Cross-Referencing Data

Use the AllBreedPedigree lookup (Ctrl + Shift + L) to verify registration information or find additional details not in our database.

Mobile Access

The site is mobile-friendly. On smaller screens, the navigation menu moves to the top of the page. Keyboard shortcuts are not available on mobile devices.
